
Biographical Notes
Roberto Corbo was born in Fragneto l'Abate (BN) 11/04/1947. At nine years old, we see him at the head of a group of children to collect scrap iron to sell in order to buy a leather ball with an inner tube and finally being able to play like the big boys. At 16, he founded the socio-cultural circle "Bang-Bang", in its rooms the young people of Fragneto l'Abate will be involved in animated debates: the more discussed topics were love, friendship, mutual respect, God. At 17 he founded the "G.I.A.C.". At 18, he paints the first version of "Ansia" (Anxiety), after graduating surveyor in 1965 at the Technical Institute "G. Alberti" of Benevento. He sculpts in this period various works in wood. In 1973 he graduated in Civil Engineering (Building Section) at the Polytechnic of Naples and enabled the profession of engineer. After serving in the military in the "Folgore" Division, he designed the new urban area of ​​Fragneto l'Abate. It is a period of intense professional work. After the earthquake of 23/11/1980, he founded in 1981 with a group of workers the cooperative production and work "CO.FRA.". The cooperative employs all, but in 1983 began the first quarrels to "steal" him the managment of the cooperative. In 1985, tired of these constant diatribes, he abandons the enterprise, but then he finds difficulties to get back into local professional circuits. Gradually he left the profession and devoted himself to painting since 1986. He learnt the potentialities of the spatula and the oil colors and with enthusiasm he reached the Abstract Painting . Each painting is born as an idea and the shapes, highlighted by the various colors, represent them. Numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad have been performed during the thirty years activity. In 1997, after a deep spiritual and economic crisis, he wrote his first two books: "Me and God" and "Oboticon". In 1998 a period for him of severe depression, he attempts suicide. Having recovered, he wrote "The St John's apples" and received a literary prize. In 2001 he founded the periodical magazine "Fragnetello", wich reached all emigrants far from Fragneto l'Abate. He wrote other books. In 2003 arrives the disease and his paper is no longer published. In 2004, after the amputation of the leg he starts to devote himself to painting with great effort. In addition to Germany and Italy, many of his paintings are present in Scotland. He always loves nature of his country, its landscapes, the river and from the branches of his olive trees new sculptures arise, informal natural forms which are transfigured into significant signs, the "Glifometamorfi". He continues to live in Fragneto l'Abate with his wife Maria, known in 1977 and married in 1978, and his three sons, Antonio, Salvatore and Paola in the house of Fragneto l'Abate which houses his paintings, his works, his life , his memories to the death that comes on 22/01/2013 because of the worsening of his illness.
